  • To apply for a scholarship, please complete the 2022 Scholarship Application form prior to registering.

Monday-Friday, July 18-29

10:00AM - 3:00PM

Want to make a difference and create some out-of-this-world experiences? Join us as educators and students make hypotheses, create models, and work together to better understand and improve the environment in Coeur d’Alene and beyond! Using observation and scientific inquiry, you will investigate the natural environment, and help to create, build and send an experiment thousands of miles away on a near-space balloon launch!

Cost: $500.00, includes all materials. Meals are not provided. Please bring your own snacks. Attendees will have an hour for lunch daily. Scholarships are available for educators with financial need. Read more about scholarships below.

Scholarship Information: Gizmo reserves half of all Institute spaces for scholarship recipients. Scholarships are based on financial need and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Gizmo uses a sliding scale system for scholarships: you decide what you can reasonably contribute toward your Institute experience, and Gizmo covers the difference. You may apply for one Institute scholarship  per summer. To apply for a scholarship, please complete the Summer Institute 2022 Scholarship Application form, which is accessible by clicking here. Upon approval of your application, you will be provided with a unique registration code and a credit to apply toward your  registration. Please do not attempt to register for the Institute prior to receiving a confirmation from Gizmo.

PD Credit: Educators who complete the 10-day Institute, representing 50 hours, will be eligible for 3 PD credits from the University of Idaho, at a cost of $60 per credit. An additional 3 PD credits will be available for 50 hours dedicated during the fall or spring semester for the implementation of the prototype developed during the Institute.

Cancellation Policy: If you are no longer able to attend the Institute, you may cancel your registration up to 10 days prior to the start date for a 90% refund. (Gizmo retains 10% to cover our administrative/transaction costs.) Refunds will generally not be issued for cancellations within 10 days of the Institute, nor missed days.
